The Story Behind The Costume Queen and Meet Our Staff

The Costume Queen is the creation of Barbara Jean Emery of Rock Hill, SC. She is an accomplished seamstress of over 5 decades. Barbara was taught, at the age of five, how to sew by her mother and grandmother. At the age of ten she made Barbie clothes to sell to her classmates. As a teenager if she couldn't decide what to wear...she would make a skirt or dress to wear for school the next day. Barbara made most of the costumes for a school play during her senior year in high school. She has made wedding gowns, bridesmaids gowns, costumes for Halloween and church plays, and has altered hundreds of garments. She loves to add bling to costumes!

From 2013-2018 Barbara created costuming for pageant kids. She retired from pageant designing due to family health issues. She became full time caretaker for her mother and disabled sister. Following her mother's passing in March 2022, Barbara went back into designing and sewing full time. She chose to design for Santa and Mrs. Claus. Barbara was commissioned to design and sew costumes for a children's theater group in Charlotte, NC. She created fourteen costumes in seven days for production of The Little Mermaid, Jr. performed by ages 9-21.

As Barbara creates more for Santa and Mrs. Claus photos will be added to this website. You can also keep up with daily posts on her Facebook and Instagram accounts.
